BIT320 Week of 9/12
Some syllabus updates and heads-up.
I updated the syllabus slightly for next week. I added a reading from the coursepack that I think will help clarify normalization. You do not have to read it before class, but it should help after class.
Generally speaking, we are moving in to the "problem solving/ analytical" portion of the class. The material is foundational and critical for your understanding of what is going on. However, many students find this material to be terribly dry at times leading them to wonder about its ultimate worth. My advice is: attend class, participate, read material, solve problems, blog with your solutions and questions. This method is tedious but works.
I will generally update the syllabus by the Friday before the next week. Syllabus updates are here: http://thecommunityengine.com/bit320/syllabus.
While we are at it, if you have not filled out the blogging and delicious assignments on cTools, you need to do it.

Using jEdit
Here are simple steps to get up and running with jEdit.
Topics: Tools
Some people are curious to start using jEdit. To use jEdit, you need to do the following:
- Download and install Java 1.4.2 or greater if you don't already have it.
- Download the windows version of jEdit. I'm assuming everyone uses Windows. There are also easy to install Mac and Linux versions on the same page. jEdit is the same across all platforms. The versions just make it easier to install and give it a little of the platform look and feel.
- After that, start jEdit. Then, go to the plugins manager under the jEdit Plugins menu. You want to install the FTP plugin. That plug-in includes SFTP support.
