CVcasting?

Topics:

Podcasting we’ve heard of but CVcasting? CV, in case you don’t know, is the same thing as a Resume, except in Europe (and other places as well) it has a different name, often includes a personal statement and picture. It stands for Curriculum Vitae. One of the new ideas, perhaps quickly becoming a new trend, is that people are beginning to attach their CVs to different podcasting files they share with users. Monster.com is still doing really well but posting CVs might not be a bad idea in the land of iTunes, afterall it’s used by millions and it’s free. Even better, it only pops up when you click on it. To read more about this new phenomenon check out Francois’s blog at oreilly.net.

Chevy: a first in advertising, or a big annoyance?

Topics:

I was watching Jay Leno tonight for the first time in about a month. I noticed that I was seeing a lot of Chevy ads, and that these ads were ridiculously long. I found this article online, and now I understand what’s going on. Chevy purchased all the advertising time during this episode of Jay Leno - an advertising first.. The super-long commercials feature Andy Dick presenting entries to an ad competition for the HHR to a boardroom of Chevy execs. The entries are actual submissions to the contest that made it to this final round. The winner gets an HHR.

Good for Chevy. But I have never been more annoyed by commercial breaks. The commercials were not even good. Andy Dick appears annoying, and the “execs” are horrible actors. I think advertising to this extent has more of a negative impact than anything. Variety in commericial breaks can be fun, and this was taken away tonight by Chevy. In addition, the ads confused me. I had no idea that there was a contest going on until I looked online. This should have been made clear. And why is Andy Dick in all of the entries? I thought average people submitted them…
