others think its del.icio.us too

Topics:

I usually just bookmark what is interesting or relevant for this class and never really go back and look at my bookmarks. I was perusing through them and completely forgot that you can see how many other people have also bookmarked that page. I was surprised at some of the low numbers of pages which I thought more people would have also bookmarked and was super surprised that websites which I would just bookmark for randomness would have the most number of people. For example, along with me, 30 other people had bookmarked the AntWeb, showing the under world of Ants. Really didn’t even know people were that excited about Ants..I just thought it was weird. Just a thought on del.icio.us! Btw team, we have a meeting tomorrow at 9 in case you are reading=)

I like what I find…

Topics:

Welcome to my nightly muse time. As I was perusing people’s bookmarks it dawned on me that Bud doesn’t want us to bookmark other people’s bookmarks which completely makes sense if we are to make this class effective. BUT (there’s always a but) what if I like what other people bookmark? Can I bookmark the bookmark or should I just be old school and bookmark it on the Firefox toolbar(I wanted to see how many times I can write bookmark in one sentence btw.)? Any takers on this philosophy?

MyWeb by Yahoo

Topics:

There is a commentary piece on Forbes.com called “A Better Way to Search” which discusses Yahoo’s new search tactic called MyWeb. How it works is as follows:

First, the idea behind MyWeb (now in beta version) is to create your own personal Web universe with the center being your own page, which includes all of the Web pages and links you’ve downloaded and stored there–basically, a snazzier set of bookmarks. In turn, these pages are searchable whenever you like.

These “search communities” are suppose to be Yahoo’s way of taking over Google, but isn’t this exactly like del.icio.us? Whats the difference? At the same time, I question whether people are actually going through other people’s bookmarks. Since I’ve been using del.icio.us, I haven’t really been looking at other people’s bookmarks. I just bookmark my own and don’t really try to find people who I have bookmarks in common with. But this is a personal thought. Del.icio.us is stil up and running and many people are interacting on it so there must be some appeal to it. If that’s the case, Yahoo is making a good move and this project will probably become popular just because Yahoo is a well known name.
