The Tempo Quickens as the Templetes Diversify

Topics:

ahhhhhhhh! I’ve been trying to work on this chapter of SQL. And I was moving ok until the end of the chapter and I hit a wall with Attribute Value Templates and Working with Named Templates.

Ok first with Attribute Value Templates:

  1. What is an Xpath?
  2. What is the purpose of this template

Second with Named Templates, I understand that its creating another template rule so that one doesn’t need to rewrite it at every place you want to use it buuuuuuuuut:

  1. at the end of the example, why do they match year and grade?
  2. and why does my sample when I run it have an error message of:

file:/home/usr01/bit320/steviek/webapps/XSLT/basic.p63-2.xsl: XML-0121: (Fatal Error) End tag does not match start tag ‘xsl:template’.
file:/home/usr01/bit320/steviek/webapps/XSLT/basic.p63-2.xsl: XML-0210: (Fatal Error) Unexpected EOF.
Error occurred while parsing basic.p63-2.xsl: End tag does not match start tag ‘xsl:template’.

OK that’s it for right now ;D Over and Out!

Exists Exists…oh what a word

Topics:

alright. Do you really exist? Do you know how we make ourselves exists?
Because I don’t think I can exist if I don’t figure out how to use Exists in SQL. The program is defeating me and I really have no reason to go on.

Ok, but no really. Page 110 in chapter 5. I’m confused about what Exists is and how it can be used. Can you only use it with a subquery? Bud says its important and I’m like ack cause it doesn’t really provide a very good explaination for it. Soooo glad that I’m doing the practice problems.

Mat the way, ‘Mat your blog

Topics:

So Jb was asking about the write page function of the blog saying

What exactly is the “Write Page?” I’m not sure if I use it already or not.

Yes! You actually are already using it. When you go to your blogsite, and look on the right under “Pages” is the link labled “About”. When you click on it gives you info on what the pages is.

Pretty much they are just sub pages where you can put other information and stuff. You have other optoins like “custom fields” which I haven’t figured out but I think you just have to play with it a little, most stuff isn’t permenant. And if it is, we can talk to Bud ;)

It’s not really formating but its close.

If you go to the links tab in your dashboard, you can also add and delete, but I think most of us have figured that out already ;) It seems that this blog is a bit more stringent on the types of changes that one can actually make to the display of the blog. Rules, always getting in the way ;)

Beta Beta Bet on Yourself

Topics:

I thought I would try and connect two threads of thought here.

Recently, Pink Footsie was wondering out loud about what Beta Version means. Matt provided a great answer and other avenues for more information. However Matt went onto complain about in another post about how Word Press hates him and thwarted him in his login. And I have to say, it probably hates all of us. No offense.

Because this blog is a test version. I’m not clear on what version it is, beta, alpha….so on. But it still has bugs and problems. Which I think are compounded because we aren’t sure what everything is.

Just the other day I finally figured out what “Write Page” was and then went editing crazy. Not only that, when curiousity gets the better of you and you click on things you aren’t suppose to, since it is a test version its not quiet clear on how to get back to were you started. I clicked on a presentation theme option and next thing I knew, my blog didn’t make sense anymore.

But even though there are theme, login, adding categories, not quite sure what that is problems, its still kind of phun to test beta…or whatever versions before everyone else. Right…..riiiiiiiight? ;)

Block your Way, Block your Quotes

Topics:

So Supriya was asking about blockquotes features, like this:

I am not able to block quote when I respond to others’ questions. I tried using the single as well as the double quotes but that does not work. It just shows up with the quotes rather than in the format which shows that I am responding to someone (with the line on the side).

It’s really easy ;)you have to do is click on “HTML” in your tools when you are writing. And when it pops up another screen, put infront of the quote “blockquote” enclosed in carrot things <>.At the end of the quote you then put “/blockquote” in carrot thingys <>. Sorry I can’t acutally can’t show you cause the writing editor is just too smart for me and thinks that I want to quote myself ;)

Actually, I just figured out that if you just type it into your write post viewer, it does it automotically for you. It’s just that smart.

That’s all you really have to do. There might be an easier way, but I don’t know. Life’s hard.

Spancy Shortcuts

Topics:

So I happen to be putting together a post. I like to use all the special keys, buttons, and shortcuts that are on the write post page.

I just realized that I would post a screen shot to remind all of you, but this blog service doesn’t seem to allow me to, I would have to upload it myself and provide a link. Up until recently, Blogger also didn’t have this option, but now they do and I post picture upon picture to my delight.

However, in class the other day, Bud happen to be putting together a post and he seem to have many more options on his write post page, like a blockquote button, etc etc. My jealousy has consumed me and so I must ask.

Does anyone know how to set up those fancy shortcuts on the write page? Which tabs must I go through to get that set up? Thanks from the green monster.
