"It seems a bit of a stretch to impute a causal relationship, but it's certainly possible that the kind of brain that can handle multiple channels of information is also the kind of brain that earns A's."

Neighborly Communication
Topics: interaction
I was reading this article about the new idea in instant messaging. Meetroductions has created Meetro, which “marries instant-messaging software with geo-proximity technology in the hopes of expanding people’s social circles.” This is currently in Chicago and enables residents to sign on and state their location. Then, they are presented with a list of names with photos of users that are in a certain radius from you. You can then search the profiles and begin chatting with your neighbors. This kind of seems like a online dating service but you could also make business contacts or friends through this. I think it is a good way to learn about your neighbors.

Technology vs Intelligence
Topics: LearningRemix Technology aggregation education interaction
I wanted to comment on the internet vs. intelligence issue brought up in this posting. I dont know if I would say the internet is making us dumber but we are surely dependent on our technology. For instance, during the blackout, most of our normal daily procedures were called to a halt and many businesses couldn’t function. Technology does discourage the use of the traditional paper and pencil mathematics, but wherever there is expansion of communication, there is more information and therefore more knowledge.

So, is the BIT320 remix making us smarter or dumber? According to this slashdot post, we may be in trouble for traditional learning purposes. I suspect there is an issue in getting people to adopt this kind of novel style also.
