Those Guys in Oceania Are Kicking Ass

I'm kind of impressed with James Farmer, Richard MacManus, and Darren Rowse. In case you did not know, James Farmer just started a consultancy called Blog Savvy and is a well-known pioneer in educational blogging. Richard MacManus has slowly been building a reputation as a sponsored blogger for Web 2.0. Darren Rowse supports himself to the tune of 6 figures using targeted advertising on his blogs. As a one-man, self-funded operation, he is more impressive in his personal earnings than bloggers for old-new media networks like Weblogs, Inc.

So, what do these guys have in common? They live in Australia and New Zealand, as far away from Ann Arbor Michigan as you can get on dry land, and I'm writing about them. How do I know about them? I discovered them while reading and searching through blogs. Using targeted posts and sites, they have managed to attract attention and links. They do not necessarily write short and frequent (multiple times a day) posts as recently suggested by Scoble. They are merely targeted and authoritative, posting a few times a week. They have also done a great job tapping into RSS and other Web 2.0 technologies that get a company seen. Doing my own version of this kind of networking, I even managed to attract the attention of Richard MacManus last week for the High Octane Blogging Bootcamp.

Blogs and other Web 2.0 technologies enable even small companies to participate in the global information economy. What it takes to succeed is savvy and execution.

update: For some reason, I called James Farmer “Richard Farmer”. I guess I have Richard on the brain.
