I don’t just “use” the Internet, so why am I a user?
It’s because whenever I hear that term I always translate it to “slave generated content.” Here’s why: there’s a lot of companies who are expecting you to help out their business models

Oracle buys Innobase. MySQL between rock and hard place?
MySQL is a free database that provides functionality similar to Oracle. Zawodny's analysis is that Oracle is trying to suck the lifeblood out of MySQL. My cut is that MySQL has been trying to replace the part that Oracle bought, so maybe not so bad.

O'Reilly Radar > HBO Attacking BitTorrent
Instead of coming up with an alternative service consumers would purchase because it adds value, HBO attacks pirate services. I think people would pay for an easy to use online download service. I would for the Sci Fi Channel.

Microsoft Quashes Search Relevancy Report
The important point here is that microsoft is not making a dent in the search business, and by extension one can understand why they re-orged. Competition has moved off of the desktop and into search. A more general issue of how you measure performance.

I disagree with Jason Calacanis. IceRocket's adoption of tagging using a format invented by technorati indicates that technorati is achieving wide marketplace acceptance. By my estimates over a million bloggers are using the technorati format.

AJAX bad for publishers, good for users?
In my mind if you’re running a webservice like DIGG, Flickr, or email AJAX is great, if you’re a publisher it’s too soon to start giving away 10-20% of your revenue—right?

Six Apart Price Pool?
Weblog companies are selling at $820k/weblog per the nytimes acquisition of about.com. That seems steep and perhaps not the best way to look at it. Targeted ad performance is part of About's pricing.
